Aniseed Myrtle Tea

Relish in the extraordinary and aromatic experience of drinking bulled leaves of the Australian Syzygium anisatum, popularly known as Aniseed Myrtle Tea.

The infusion of these dry leaves is a therapeutic beverage that tastes like green liquorice because of its countless sweet, refreshing qualities. In Aboriginals’ Australian herbal medicine, this tea has been used for hundreds of years from assisting digestive function to just being an incredible-flavored herbal tea.

We grow all of our Aniseed Myrtle in the traditional botanical heartland – its native home – The Bundjalung Country (i.e. Northern NSW).

A statement from our farms:

"We have developed strong ties with the traditional Bundjalung owners through field days and farm visits for the purpose of sharing farming knowledge and to get to know each other.

Last year, elders and young farmers from the Bundjalung farm Namabunda joined us at our flagship farm, then called HQ, for a naming ceremony of the farm. The farm was then named Nanggill Mulla, or Home of Lemon Myrtle.

We will continue to acknowledge, pay respect, and develop our relationships with the Bundjalung people through the sharing of knowledge and employment opportunities."

No matter your purpose be it for digestive aid or relaxation of the body or having a very distinctive and delicious tea taste, Aniseed Myrtle Tea does it all wonderfully.

Here at Tea Life Australia, we ensure that our Aniseed Myrtle Tea is made from sustainably grown local Australian trees. By doing this, we uphold the genuine experience that comes with drinking pure tea.

Taste Profile: Sweet, Spicy, and Refreshing

As the name suggests, Aniseed Myrtle Tea has a sweet, licorice-like flavour with some refreshing and slight spicy undertones.

The tea has a natural sweetness like anise or fennel to give it a lovely and aromatic taste that will delight tea drinkers who prefer strong herbal teas. Its cool and silky profile stays on the taste buds so that a pleasant tea experience can be had.

The tea’s strong and profound flavour can be consumed without any sweeteners, however, the addition of honey or lemon will only complement it.

Health Benefits of Aniseed Myrtle Tea

Promotes Healthy Digestion: Aniseed Myrtle is an effective carminative that prevents gas formation and helps alleviate indigestion, heaviness and bloating.

Eases Coughs: The soothing components of Aniseed Myrtle are helpful in relieving coughs and congestion in the lungs.

Packed with Antioxidants: The tea contains a lot of antioxidants that defend the body against oxidative damage and boost health.

Great for Stress Relief: The calming synergistic effect of the aniseed myrtle can help lower anxiety and promote clarity which makes it a suitable tea for relaxing after work.

Helps Freshen Breath: Aniseed myrtle features antibacterial substances that may help in removing bad breath and aid in regular oral care.

Preparing Aniseed Myrtle Tea

Making Aniseed Myrtle Tea is straightforward and permits you to appreciate its unique taste and advantages:

  1. Water temperature: Bring the water to about 90°C (194°F) so that the aniseed myrtle leaves acquire their sweet smell.

  2. Steeping time: Depending on your taste for strength, take 1-2 teaspoons of the dried aniseed myrtle leaves and allow them to infuse in the hot water for around 5-7 minutes.

  3. Enhancements: The tea can be enjoyed by itself, but it is better with a spoonful of honey or lemon added to it as this cornices the natural sweetness of the tea and the spice.

  4. Enjoy: Drink it hot if you want to experience its sweet and warming taste of a liquorice like flavour, or allow it to cool as an iced herbal tea which is also very refreshing.
